Voices from the desk

“They forced us to separate freight and currency noise from the copper story itself. The assessment did not tell us what we hoped to hear about Q3, which was useful. We delayed one tender and avoided buying into a week that later looked obviously extended.”

Procurement lead, regional metals importer — Commodity Price Trend Assessment

“The sector outlook session stopped our usual circular debate. Finance and trading still disagreed on hedge size, but at least they argued from the same rice price ranges. The post-session note was short enough that our MD actually read it.”

Commercial director, agri trading house — Sector Outlook Session

“Import timing review matched our vessel options to the crude slate we care about. One recommendation felt conservative on price; looking back, the freight call was the part that saved us demurrage headaches.”

Operations manager, energy importer — Import Timing Review

“Procurement briefing arrived in time for our quarterly plan. I would have liked a slightly deeper inventory section, yet the timing call was clear and our category lead used the language almost verbatim in the board pack.”

Extended note: rubber window for a Thai processor

A mid-sized rubber processor asked for a Commodity Price Trend Assessment ahead of a heavy buying window into the rainy season. Inventory on hand was higher than usual; the commercial team wanted to know whether waiting two weeks was reckless or disciplined.

We mapped local collection signals against regional offer sheets and currency moves that had been distorting landed comparisons. The base case favoured waiting for a softer pocket that was already forming in nearby grades, with a hard checkpoint if arrivals into major ports tightened faster than expected.

The client waited nine days, then bought. Prices did not collapse — they eased enough that the inventory carry cost was offset. The mild reservation from their side afterwards: they wished the assessment had included a one-page supplier talking script. We now offer that as an optional add-on when buyers request it at intake.
